Useful details to have ready
- Your postcode, property type and whether you own or rent the home.
- The parking arrangement, including any allocated bay or shared access.
- Your car model, normal parking direction and the location of its charging port.
- The approximate route from the meter or consumer unit to the proposed charger.
- Any paving, garage, communal corridor or floor that the cable must cross.
- Your preferred charger, tariff, solar panels, home battery or other large electrical loads.
Photos can help with an initial assessment. Keep all electrical covers closed and leave fuse identification to the electrician: a marking on the outside is not proof of the fuse fitted inside. For a flat in Stratford or a rented house in Croydon, mention whether the landlord or managing agent has agreed to the work.
Indicative EV charger installation prices in London
The six installation ranges below are our service guide figures for supply and fitting before any grant. They are budgeting estimates, not guaranteed quotes, and do not cap the cost of an unusual job. Ask for a written total including VAT where chargeable and a list of exclusions. The categories overlap: you would not add a smart installation price to a tethered installation price for the same unit.

Why your quotation may differ
A short surface route beside a driveway may involve little making-good. A remote garage in Pinner can need armoured cable and a trench, while a flat in Battersea may need containment through communal areas, agreed fire-stopping and a metering arrangement. Consumer unit alterations, a pedestal, access arrangements and network works can all change the budget.
Ask whether load management, app setup, testing, network notification and Building Regulations documentation are included. Do not assume that a main fuse change, a new supply or the freeholder's review fee is covered by an installation package. Complex shared-car-park projects can exceed the flats guide range.
Permission, grants and the final specification
Confirm the necessary property consents before fixing an installation date. Domestic new-circuit work needs the appropriate Part P compliance route; Approved Document P explains the distinction between the electrical work and notification. If a grant may apply, check GOV.UK chargepoint grant eligibility, the application timing and the installer's authorisation before work starts. No grant deduction is built into this table.
What happens after your enquiry?
Suitable installers may contact you for photos or a survey. Ask them to state the charger model, usable output, cable route, itemised extras and the certificates you will receive. Agree who clears waste and repairs any disturbed surfaces. Choose a quote only when you understand what it covers.
